Our Story

Battlegrain Engraving and Customs was built the way a lot of great things have been over the course of time. Through sawdust, service, and a little stubbornness.

After four years in the U.S. Army and over 17 (and counting) in the U.S. Coast Guard, I turned to woodworking as a creative outlet. A way to decompress between deployments and duty stations. What started as a side hobby quickly became a passion: building custom, handcrafted pieces with military precision and a whole lot of heart.

As an active duty Coast Guard Chief, I still serve full time. So every item on this site is built after hours: after the mission, after the meetings, and after spending quality time with my beautiful wife, who somehow puts up with both the shop noise and the never-ending smell of sawdust, burned wood, and lacquer.

Here at Battlegrain, nothing is mass-produced. Every piece is designed, built, and finished by hand. Whether you’re ordering a custom coaster set, a cutting board for your retirement gift, or a laser-engraved war club that would make a Viking nod in approval, you’re getting a product that’s as unique as the service member it honors.

At Battlegrain, every cut, carve, and engraving is done with purpose. This isn’t assembly-line work. It’s the result of years of military discipline, long nights in the shop, and an unwavering attention to detail. I don’t rush builds, cut corners, or ship anything I wouldn’t be proud to hand to a fellow service member. Each piece is crafted by hand, from scratch, with the kind of care you’d expect from someone who still irons his uniforms and sharpens his pencils before every project.

This is American craftsmanship, built with integrity, and maybe a little sawdust in the beard.

Every piece from Battlegrain is made to order. There is no inventory, no shortcuts, no mass production. I build each item after my full-time Coast Guard duties are done for the day, so please allow a few days for creation before your order ships. Quality takes time, and I won’t rush a product just to get it out the door.
